Gayoom's son faces charges over ruling party flag misuse

Police are seeking charges against deposed ruling party Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) leader Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's lawmaker son Faris Maumoon over the alleged misuse of the party logo and flag.

Despite some local media reports that the charges have been filed, prosecutors are yet to officially confirm.

The Dhiggaru MP had been summoned and questioned by the police over the investigation.

Faris, on May 14, made a statement revealing that the Criminal Court had imposed a travel ban on him.

Gayoom and his lawmaker son was axed from the ruling party that was founded by the elder Gayoom. However, MP Faris is contesting his dismissal and the trial is currently on going.
