Theft down, muggings up in Ramadan

Police have released statistics revealing that there were fewer robberies and more muggings during this Ramadan in comparison to last year.

According to the statistics, there were 29 cases of muggings filed last year, which is 21 cases less than this year’s number of 50.

Police received 271 cases of robbery and 66 cases of gang violence. However, these numbers decreased to 220 and 63 respectively this year.

The statistics also showed that 177 cases of accidents were reported this year whereas 180 incidents were reported during the same period last year.

Police said 29 were arrested with 26 cases this year for eating during daytime in Ramadan. This is an increase from last year’s number of 21 cases and 17 arrests.
