Pres meets ruling party leadership

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom on Sunday met with the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) amid a rumoured rift with coalition lawmakers.

At the meeting held at PPM’s main office, the president met with the party’s deputy leaders; tourism minister Moosa Zameer and Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla, Secretary General Abdulla Khaleel, PG leader Nihan Hussein Manik and PG deputy leader Ibrahim Falaah.

Discussions of the meeting remain unclear.

Meanwhile, discussions of members of the ruling party being in favour of the opposition coalition’s attempt to seek a censure motion to unseat Parliament Speaker Abdulla Maseeh have caused political tension amidst the party.
