Opposition lawmaker charged with terrorism

Prosecutors Tuesday formally charged South-Hithadhoo MP and former Male area army commander Ibrahim Didi with terrorism over the arbitrary arrest of former chief criminal judge of Abdulla Mohamed.

Didi was previously charged with terrorism before Prosecutor General’s (PG) office dropped the charges.

PG office stated on Tuesday that the new charges were filed in May. The trial, however, is yet to commence.

Former Chief of Defence Force Moosa Ali Jaleel and Colonel Ahmed Ziyad were also charged in the same case but were acquitted.

Former president Mohamed Nasheed and former defence minister Tholhath Ibrahim are currently serving their sentence over the same offence.
