Maldives man held in India airport with drugs

A Maldivian man was arrested on Tuesday at the Thiruvanthapuram International Airport, India for possession of the drug hashish oil.

According to Indian news outlet The Hindu, the hashish oil packet was strapped to the thigh of the 25-year-old which was recovered during frisking by The Aviation Security Group (ASG) personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force.

The Maldivian, identified by an ASG official as Luthfy Mohammed, had checked in at the terminal at 8:30am to return home on Indian airline flight AI263 to Malé.

The accused came into Kerela’s capital Thiruvanthapuram on a tourist visa. The news outlet, citing an ASG official, reported that the seized hashish weighed of 700 gram and is estimated to cost over four million rupees in the international market.
