Govt vows to complete 7000 flats next year

Housing minister Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Thursday stated that 7000 flats will be completed by the end of next year as part of the government’s social housing project.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony of 'Maldives Financial Expo 2017', minister said that the work of the flats has already been awarded and that the funds have been arranged.

“The foundation work for the flats have been completed. This is one of the biggest housing development project in the Maldives with 7,000 flats. People are currently living in 2,000 of those flats.” Muizzu said.

Minister also said there are projects currently underway with a total of around 40,000 housing units, including some in the islands. He also noted that a few hundred housing units have now been established in Addu and Fuvahmulah City.

Minister further stated that the completion of Hulhumale City second phase development, under President Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s manifesto, is of top priority to the government.
