Graft watchdog probes alleged attempt to buy-off govt MP

Anti-Corruption Comission (ACC) president Hassan Luthfee, on Monday, revealed that the commission is investigating ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)’s parliamentary group (PG) leader and Inguraidhoo MP Ibrahim Falah’s graft allegations against the opposition.

Speaking to Avas, Luthfee said that the commission is doing its duty and probing MP Falah’s claims against the opposition's alleged attempt to buy him off ahead of filing the third censure motion to unseat parliament speaker Abdullah Maseeh. Luthfee also noted that ACC will shortly send a summon to MP Falah to be questioned over the ongoing investigation.

Speaking at a PPM rally on July 11, the parliamentary group leader had accused the opposition of offering MVR32 million as a buy off to sign the opposition led censure motion. However, MP Falah did not disclose who offered him the graft.

MP Falah claimed to have reported the matter to the authorities. However, ACC and Police had denied receiving any official complaint over the alleged bribe.
