Two stabbed as gang violence spate continues

Gang violence spate in the capital city Malé continued as two men were stabbed on Tuesday.

According to the police, the stabbing occurred around 1:45pm when a man was stabbed near Supreme Court. The victim was taken to the state hospital for treatment. It remains unclear whether any arrests have been made in connection to the crime.

The second assault had occurred near AMDC clinic in Maafannu district. Two men were injured and taken to the hospital for treatment. Police stated that it remains unclear whether the assault was carried out with a sharp object and further added that they have not made any arrests in relation to the case.

The Maldives capital has seen a spike in violent crime in recent months after a period of relative calm. Police had also increased patrols around the city in the wake of an increase in gang violence and organised crime.
