The 22-year-old man who was stabbed in the head in a café in the capital city Malé died on Saturday.
According to police spokesperson, the victim was being treated in ADK Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) when he died.
Police also stated that no arrests have been made yet in connection to the case.
The victim was having coffee with friends at a café in Henveiru district when four masked men had stabbed him, around 06:30pm, and fled the scene.
The Maldives capital has seen a spike in violent crime in recent months after a period of relative calm. Police had also increased patrols around the city in the wake of an increase in gang violence and organised crime.
