Court imposes travel ban on top opposition MP

Criminal court imposed a one-month travel ban on opposition lawmaker Ahmed Mahloof.

Criminal court had issued orders to impose a travel ban on MP Mahloof from August 2 until September 1. The order stated that the ban was imposed over the ongoing investigation into unlawful acts committed during the chaos during the parliament sitting on Monday and obstructing the legal duty of soldiers. The order further added that the investigation may become compromised if the lawmaker flees during the ongoing probe.

Mahloof had served a sentence of 10 months over similar charges before getting released during the month of June.

Meanwhile, opposition Jumhoory Party (JP) leader and Maamigili lawmaker Gasim Ibrahim’s travel ban is yet to be lifted.
