Fisheries and Agriculture Minister Mohamed Shainee has praised the incumbent government and its president for pushing the envelope towards the development of local health sector, stressing the progress in the sector under current government has been at its peak.
Shainee praised the current government highlighting the stark contrast in health sector development between Abdulla Yameen's regime and previous ones.
The Fisheries and Agriculture Minister attended the 70th South East Asia conference hosted by World Health Organization (WHO) as chief guest where he delivered his speech.
According Shainee, the tallest registered building in Maldives - 25 story in elevation - exclusive for Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) vividly indicates the top priority towards health sector development under current government.
He also focused on the challenges in facilitating Maldivian citizens with proper health care due to geographical distribution, however this has been adequately countered.
Shainee also noted that at the time when president Abdulla Yameen took to office, government had only 9 pharmacies which had since been increased up to 187 outlets distributed across the country - all subjected to government issued health scheme; "Aasandha".
He emphasized on government's initiative to encourage healthy living for citizens which was brought to fruition through multiple parks and a new beach in capital Male'.
WHO hosted 70th South East Asia conference kicked-off earlier on Wednesday at Paradise Island Resort.
