Managing Director of Aasandha Hassan Ali - government initiated health insurance scheme provider - in a news conference held on Wednesday stated that a total of 1100 cases of cancer treatment received the scheme's backing to seek medical attention abroad.
Making it the most funded field of health related issues funded for medical provision abroad this year.
Under government's unlimited medical insurance policy a total of 3776 patients received opportunities to seek medical attention from abroad. Which included;
1. 1100 cases of cancer treatment
2. 363 cases of ophthalmology
3. 307 cases of urinary infection and related issues
4. 227 cases of nerve or neuron related issues
5. 212 cases of intestinal or digestive system treatment
6. 198 kidney associated cases
7. 184 coronary cases
8. 180 cases related to health issues of children
9. 104 cases related to cranium
According to Aasandha corporation's MD, approximately 20 of health insurance funding so far in 2017 accounted for medical treatment from abroad. He also went on to add that in order to facilitate for medical treatment seldom provided by Maldivian medical institutes, Hulhumale' hospital would be adding the service of cancer treatment in the coming October.
The current major medical institute - Hulhumale' Hospital - is operated under the management of Aasandha.
