Addtional MVR 330 mil assigned to Health Sector

Supplementary budget of MVR 493 million has been presented to local parliament for deliberation, including MVR 330 millio allotted to Maldivian healthcare and health sector improvement.

Finance Minister Ahmed Munavvar claimed a supplementary budget was generated due to expectations of additional funds required before the year's end over several government projects.

Munavvar noted the year's economic background indicates strong growth and progression with the tourism sector boosted by 5.9% increase in visitors so far, with an increase of 8.8% tourist stay. He also concurred the same for local infrastructural development stating an increase of 6.9% contributing to local development as a whole.

While government has planned to assign an additional MVR 330 mil for health sector, state confirms an expenditure of MVR 300 million on government health insurance scheme; Aasandha, so far this year.

Furthermore development of new medical institutions and the 25 story building, dubbed "Dharumavantha Hospital" is carried out by the government incurring further expenses.
