Revamp on senior ranks of Maldives Police

Amid heating tension between Commissioner of Police Ahmed Areef and Deputy Commissioner of Police Ahmed Saudhee, the Maldives Police Service head has brought changes to top ranks of the institute.

Meanwhile a special committee dispatched from President's Office have intervened the situation in hopes to subside the conflict.

One of the most noteworthy changes Maldives Police Service witnessed this week was when Chief Superintendent of Crime Investigation Department, Abdulla Ahmed was replaced with Chief Superintendent Mohamed Basheer.

The replaced SI, Ahmed has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of Police Corperative Society. The chief legal councilor to Commissioner of Police had been revamped as well.

Chief Superintendent Ahmed Shuhad has been appointed as the new deputy head of Information and Communication Department while Family and Child Protection Department saw its new leader in Chief Superintendent Hassan Haneef.

Police media official had commented internal changes to the policing institute were not up for disclosure to media.

While major changes to top designations of the Police Service was carried out by Commissioner of Police disciplinary actions against several officers had concurred, and they have been dealt with accordingly post disciplinary committee probe.

Several officers were axed from their held designations while others were transferred to different stations across atolls.
