Health Minister to Russia for TB eradication talks

Health Minister Nazim Ibrahim, on Tuesday night flew to Russia in order to take part in talks to eradicate Tuberculosis.

The World Health Organization (WHO) initiated conference between the health ministers from the world to debate and discuss on various fatal ailments is set to kick off on November 16 for a duration of two days at Moscow.

Minister Ibrahim spoke with media prior to his flight at the official jetty where he stressed the conference will enhance the Maldivian initiative of eradicating Tuberculosis entirely from the country by 2020. He added several meetings are expected to take place outside the official conference between countries and global organizations supporting the cause.

Health Minister had also stressed the various awareness campaigns targeting the citizens have proven beneficial as more are educated on the ailment and its symptoms. Ibrahim had also added that cases of locals diagnosed with the ailment is significantly low in Maldives.

The health conference is expected to receive more than 100 world representatives while several global health acts and association heads will be joining the discussions taking the participant rate to nearly 1,000.

Russia's president Vladimir Putin is expected for the opening speech in the conference.
