Deposed ruling party leader and former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has asked the military to provide the details of the nature of the threat to his life.
The military from Tuesday began tracking the people entering Gayoom's residence, which according to Gayoom was due to a possible threat to his life.
Visitors to former president's residence will have their identity and details noted by military personnel on-site to keep records of the individuals.
A close confidante of the former head of state confirmed to Avas Online that the military has tightened the security around the official residence of Gayoom and his wife.
Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), the military unit of Maldives, was unavailable for comment.
Gayoom on Twitter said he had sent a letter asking the military to specify the nature of the threat.
"I've asked for details so that I can protect myself," Gayoom said.
