NIMS resolves issues and reports to Ministry

Managing Director of India based Noorul Islamic International Private Limited (NII), Faizal Khan had sent a letter to Health Minister Abdulla Nazim to confirm the group has resolved issues with Kulhudhuffushi regional hospital administration and operations.

Development of Kulhudhuffushi regional hospital was assigned to NII which is a joint-venture by Noorul Islamic Education which runs the famous Indian NIMS Hospital and Noorul Islamic Trust Fund. Noorul Islamic Education hold 80% of NII's shares while the remaining 20% is owned by the company's director Ali Usaid.

The regional hospital fell through the cracks of administrative setbacks due to the clash between Khan and Usaid with both parties placing heavy accusation on the other over the conduct of the institute.

Health Ministry had issued a 10 day period to the group to resolve all issues and commence a smoother operation of the hospital which is considered as the busiest in the Northern region of Maldives.

In the letter to Health Minister Nazim, Khan asserted that a board meeting was planned in order to discuss and tackle the administrative issue of the hospital which was however unsuccessful due to Usaid's disapproval for a meeting. However a special general meeting was held in order to assess the situation.

Through the meeting three additional directors were assigned to the board, resulting in Khan and Usaid becoming two among the five directors that run the group. The newly elected directors are nominees of the 80% shareholder NIE.

A secretary general was assigned through the meeting as well, while Khan affirmed that board meetings will now commence with or without Usaid's attendance.

A management board of Kulhudhuffushi regional hospital was formed to ease the operational tasks in order to put the institute back to its feet. The managing company sent an action plan to Health Ministry citing all the important tasks planned in order to kickstart the hospital once again. This had included the installation of CT and Echo Sound machines at the hospital along with several other equipment.

Furthermore the management is attempting to add more personnel to the hospital's employee roster. Currently visa arrangement for the new employees are underway; this includes 8 doctors flying in to reside at the institute.

Meanwhile a case has been lodged at Maldives Police Service stating that Ali Usaid, the director of NII had obstructed the task of hiring five doctors to the hospital.

Khan concluded his letter to Minister Nazim adding that the latest development in Kulhudhuffushi regional hospital will help to build a proper rapport between Maldives and India, with a considerable step forward in an "India First" policy.
