Health Protection Agency (HPA) has confirmed the number of dengue fever cases reported is comparatively more than the total number of cases reported during the same period of 2017.
First portion of each year is active with dengue fever cases reported throughout Maldives. To counter this and raise awareness and promote safety, HPA had initiated special camps last week. Maldives has reported little over 2000 cases of dengue fever patients in past two years.
HPA is reported to have prioritized the islands where the viral fever is frequent.
Although the number of cases reported had hiked compared to last year's same period, HPA confirms the epidemic is not nationwide this around and it has been contained to specific islands - with a severity of patient numbers in those islands.
Health Protection Agency had shied away from publicizing the islands reported with dengue fever patients as well as the total number of cases confirmed by the authority.
HPA had recommended for early consultation to doctors over fever symptoms and draining stagnant water containers. Additionally to take precaution in mosquito repellents.
