Dhiggaru constituency lawmaker Ahmed Faris Maumoon has presented a case at Supreme Court against security forces' chiefs over insubordination to the top-court order citing his release.
Former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's elder son, parliament member Faris Maumoon was among the nine political prisoners the top court issued release order on Thursday night.
MP Maumoon had requested from Supreme Court to take action against police acting chief Abdulla Nawaz, head of police custodial department Ahmed Nafiz, chief inspector Ahmed Shareef and Dhoonidhoo custodial in-charge Abdulla Abdul Raheem.
Dhiggaru constituency lawmaker's advocate team had requested to take action against the police chiefs under court contempt regulations.
In addition to this Faris Maumoon has submitted a habeas corpus from the top-court for his release.
The case filed on behalf of the lawmaker requested Supreme Court to rule Faris Maumoon's arrest unlawful and release him under a habeas corpus order.
His advocate Maumoon Hameed affirms that the Dhiggaru constituency lawmaker had insisted his release was informed by Maldives Police Service within an hour of top-court order on Thursday night. Furthermore, some officers on site and Maumoon himself had affirmed he was taken to the speed-boat for transportation back to capital Male' city.
Moments after Supreme Court issued the release order, the then police commissioner Ahmed Areef had claimed the department was underway of implementing it. However Areef was dismissed suddenly from held designation after which deputy commissioner took his place.
However deputy commissioner Saudhee was removed from police chief's post and the Nawaz was brought in as the acting chief of the department.
Since then the security forces of Maldives had pledged their stand with government, pertaining they will follow the instructions and orders exclusively based on the legal consultancy of attorney general Mohamed Anil.
