Police on Thursday arrested two suspects in connection to the arson attack on a electric substation of government owned utility corporation State Electric Company (STELCO).
The substation was set ablaze at dawn on Thursday and police said a 28 year old and a 34 year old had been arrested in connection to the attack.
Although Maldives National Defense Force's fire and rescue officers were able to extinguish the flame around 04:00hrs, the distribution board has been burnt beyond repair. The distribution board provided electricity to 7 zones in capital Male'.
Fire and rescue officers who countered the fire claims that they have enough reason to believe it was an arson attack.
