Parliamentary group leader of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik has confirmed the local parliament will resume next week, after a short period of recess.
According to the parliamentary group leader the parliament did not go into short recession over lack of work but several bills are in pending and requires the support and deliberation of members from the opposition as well.
He urged for the contribution of the opposition members representing several constituencies at the parliament.
"The pending and future works and bills require the complete contribution of opposition members, these matters cannot be resolved only by the ruling party or government affiliated members meaning these are important issues," Nihan said in his interview to Public Service Media (PSM).
Since the parliament term for 2018 started a total of 11 sittings have concluded so far with the last sitting on March 14. After that there had been no official sittings or any committee meetings - placing the parliament in an unofficial recess period.
However according to parliament regulations and constitution the sittings are scheduled for every Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays every week excluding recess period.
