Tourist wins damages in jet-ski accident during Maldives holiday

A Singapore tourist has won damages in a civil lawsuit filed after being hit by a jet-ski during her holiday in the Maldives.

The Maldives civil court ordered the unidentified local instructor who was the passenger of the jet-ski to pay compensation to the injured tourist identified as Linda.

The court had found the instructor liable for the accident and had ordered the man to pay for the medical expenses and losses incurred by the victim as a result of the incident.

Linda had been hospitalized for a month following the accident and the local man was ordered to cover her medical expenses amounting to 3,397.11 Singapore dollars and 1,681 Maldivian Rufiyaa.

The court had also ordered the local man to pay for the time Linda had missed work valued at 5,100 Singapore dollars and the additional 4,000 Singapore dollars she had lost out on after having to cut-short her holiday.

The man was ordered to compensate the victim a total 12,501 Singapore dollars within two months of the verdict.
