Maldives on Friday formalized diplomatic relations with Central African Republic.
Permanent Representatives from their respective countries to the United Nations signed the Joint Communique in New York on Friday, Maldives foreign ministry said.
The landlocked central African country is rich in diamonds, gold, oil and uranium but has one of the world's poorest populations.
CAR became the 169th country, Maldives has established diplomatic relations after the archipelago - a month ago formalized diplomatic ties with Zambia and Ivory Coast.
