Police had prevented MDP supporters from putting up posters in the capital Male on Monday after blocking a campaign run on Friday.

Top MDP officials had met with the Elections Commission where elections chief Ahmed Shareef Umar has promised to take up the issue with the police, MDP deputy chairperson Ali Niyaz said.

Niyaz said the party would always cooperate with the authorities to ensure a free and fair elections.

MDP meanwhile boycotted the national advisory committee for the upcoming presidential elections accusing the electoral watchdog of ignoring repeated requests to facilitate the party's campaign for the crunch elections.
