MDP to decide its presidential candidate on Sat

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) parliamentary group leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has claimed the party will come to a conclusion regarding their vetted presidential candidate for the upcoming election.

Though it was disheartening for the party when its leader Mohamed Nasheed stepped down from running for top-office, Solih states that the party is strong in its resolve.

While speaking to Avas Online before the party's congress commences, Solih said they aim to stop incumbent president Abdulla Yameen's unjust administration. According to Solih the party's congress was set-up to formulate plans necessary to intervene Yameen's re-election.

The parliamentary group leader bemoaned the absence of specific statutes relating in the event when a primary presidential candidate withdraws their name from polls.

Speaking about former president Mohamed Nasheed's decision to step down from presidential polls, Solih stressed his decision would prove to great effect in the culmination of president Yameen's administration.

In a manner of deflecting a question to take on the party's endorsement as presidential candidate, Solih said his decision will complement MDP congress' decision.
