Govt. proposes PSM transition to company, board nomination to Pres

Maldives government has proposed amendment to change state owned Public Service Media's regulations to transform it to a state owned company.

The proposed amendment also cites Maldives president will reserve authority in electing the company's board members.

The amendment was proposed by Hoarafushi MP Mohamed Ismail conditioning the state-owned company will be managed through members elected under state's privatization and corporate board.

After transition PSM will hold a five member board. Board members should be elected within 10 days of implementation of new regulations.

The board will be tasked with advising the state owned media company with its content management and journalism ethics and limitations.
