Diesel 'attack' on opposition MDP members

Senior members of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has been 'attacked' with diesel oil at reclaimed suburb; Hulhumale'.

The members were taking part in door-to-door campaign for opposition nominated presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih when they diesel oil was thrown at them by yet unknown assailants.

Among the senior MDP members who were unfortunate during Tuesday's door-to-door campaign include the party's chairperson Hassan Latheef, deputy president Hussain Shifaz and former Male' City mayor Mohamed Shihab.

The attack was also directed towards several reporters on-site providing coverage of the event. This had included RaajjeTV reporter and cameraman as well as SanguTV cameraman.

Reports also confirm some of the locals at close vicinity were attacked with diesel oil.

While several MDP members were attacked with diesel oil, the party's presidential candidate was interrupted twice on road by assailants. In addition to this assailants had attempted to assault Ibrahim Mohamed Solih during his door-to-door campaign on Tuesday.

The prime opposition party had conducted their door-to-door campaign back in capital Male' and Vilimale' where the events proceeded without incident.
