Ex-VP takes credit for China-Maldives Friendship Bridge

Former vice president of Maldives Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Ghafoor has taken credit for the initiation of the mega-infrastructural project linking Maldives capital with Velana International Airport island.

According to Ahmed Adeeb, though he is currently behind bars, he was the main pioneer in bringing the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge project to Maldives.

He expressed his joy over the project drawing close to a completion date, as the ex-VP added that he was 'content' the Maldives public will be benefited from the first ever large-scale bridge constructed in the country.

While defending all 10 state pressed charges on him the former vice president said incumbent president Abdulla Yameen entrusted governance and running the country back in 2015.

Adeeb noted that he had contributed immensely in stabilizing the island nation's economy.

Officially named as 'Sinamale' Bridge', the large construction marvel will be fully unveiled sometime in August according to Maldives president.

In Sunday's hearing, former VP had explained when he took responsibility of Maldives' economy and tourism field, the country was engulfed in a political crisis. He also credited himself for acquiring several local and foreign investors to boost the country's tourism sector and with that regard the economy as well.
