Elections Commission (EC) on Thursday revealed a total of 8,000 individuals have applied for re-registration prior to presidential elections.
While speaking at the ceremony for filing opposition candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's candidacy, the president of EC Ahmed Shareef noted re-registration process was progressing faster than previous election years.
"Back in 2013 a total of 4,000 individuals re-registered during this period but this year 8,000 has already re-registered," Shareef said.
Shareef also assured the complains by opposition over re-registration process carried by Maldives government have been reviewed.
Re-registration for presidential polls was opened on July 17 and will last until August 11.
