Chief government representative to the all party talks Dr Mohamed Shainee on Sunday denied rumours that he had met with self-exiled former president Mohamed Nasheed in neighbouring Sri Lanka.
An opposition activist had claimed that Shainee during his recent visit to Sri Lanka had met with Nasheed at the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo.
Shainee who is also the fisheries minister admitted that he had stayed at the hotel but denied meeting Nasheed.
"My protocol people told me that Nasheed had also visited the hotel while I was staying there. But I didn't meet him. I didn't even see him," Shainee told AVAS.
Shainee had flown to Sri Lanka to gather support for incumbent president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom ahead of the presidential elections in September.
