MP Faisal, MDA leader aids Ban'didhoo storm victims

MDA leader and Meedhoo MP Ahmed Shiyam Mohamed visited the storm struck island of Dhaalu atoll Ban'didhoo and extended his aid to the cyclone victims.

Shiyam had visited five of the worst damaged residences of the island and aided with MVR5,000 to each house, according to the island's council member Umar Zahir.

The MDA leader visited the island around afternoon of Tuesday and visited several storm struck sites to assess the degree of damage.

Council member Zahir noted that the island has requested from neighboring resorts to lend assistance in rebuilding the damaged residences of Ban'didhoo. He estimated the damage to reach approximately MVR1 million or more.

Opposition running-mate Faisal Naseem had also visited the island on Tuesday afternoon and gave MVR1,000 per each damaged or victimized residences.

Several palms were uprooted while the roof of an ancestral mosque at the island was thrown by the strong gusts.

Maldives Meteorological Center (MET Office) expects the following three days will be stormy much like Tuesday.
