Maldives Elections Commission (EC) has stated that despite the re-registration form submission due ended, the verification process will consume significant time, and added the final voters list will be announced by next week.
The electoral watchdog's member Ahmed Akram confirmed an estimated 95,000 forms for re-registration were submitted to the commission. The forms now have been forwarded to Maldives Police for verification and data processing.
Akram noted that though they have received forms for the aforementioned number, possibilities for repeat entries and invalid data on forms are high.
The final validated voters list will be realized after a thorough assessment by the electoral watchdog in association with Maldives Police, which will consume a significant amount of time according to Akram.
The EC member further clarified the actual re-registration figure can be revealed only after discarding the invalid forms.
However, opposition has criticized the commission for holding on to the information without disclosing it.
The complaint-lodging window will be open for voters after announcing or publicizing the final voters list next week.
EC expects the ballot box numbers will be adjusted after processing re-registration forms; based on the preferred venues selected by voters to caste their votes on election-day.
