Fisheries Min claims no EU sanctions list, but a traitors list

Fisheries Minister of Maldives Dr. Mohamed Shainee on Wednesday has claimed European Union has not compiled a targeted sanctions list on 41 individuals but in fact generated a list of traitors.

Dr. Shainee has responded to former president Mohamed Nasheed's tweet in light of the international body placing forth a charter to sanction 41 distinct individuals of Maldives ranging from travel bans to asset freezes.

Responding to Nasheed's tweet Dr. Shainee claimed the said targeted sanctions list is non-existent and can be validated through the Maldives ambassador to European Union who is currently residing at Sri Lanka.

Dr. Shainee also claimed such a charter can be realized only through the approval of EU's foreign ministers council and such issues are not disclosed to its parliament members.

"There is no targeted sanctioning list, but I do have a list of traitors of Maldives and Nasheed is on top of that list," Dr. Shainee said.

Meanwhile EU parliament member Thomas Zdechovsky states he has seen a list of 41 Maldivian individuals, the international body is deliberating on sanctioning.

Ambassador Shian had sinced responded to parliament member Zdechovsky's statement claiming a list conjured by a single parliament member of EU cannot be identified as a formal document approved or under consideration of the union.

Maldives ambassador claimed the rumors regarding targeted sanctions list by European Union were attempts by political entities to influence the outcome of crunch presidential elections.

According to ambassador Shian the rumor was spread in a move to intimidate prominent politicians and entrepreneurs of the island nation to force their vote casting decisions to favor certain political ideologies.
