Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) on Sunday clarified that a several number of forms submitted for re-registration from the party's members were rejected similarly to opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
A press release on Saturday evening read that the opposition has been continuously accusing the ruling party of attempting to rig the presidential elections in 2018, in cahoots with Elections Commission.
Maldives ruling party said that while 17,000 re-registration forms out of the 24,000 forms submitted to EC, several forms from PPM members were rejected much in the same fashion as the opposition.
PPM advised the opposition and its presidential candidate to respect the spirit of elections and avoid blaming the ruling party of constantly infringing the electoral framework and local constitution.
Earlier the Maldives electoral watchdog confirmed that approximately 6,000 forms submitted for re-registration were rejected due to insufficient or inadequate information.
