Maldives Police commences pres polls security operation

Maldives Police Service on Monday has officially commenced their security protocols and operation prior to the crunch presidential election slated for September 23.

Dubbed 'Operation Blue Wave 2018' the security protocol operation was initiated officially at Iskandharu Building - a prime police headquarter in capital city Male' - on Monday morning during a meeting of the force's commanders.

Police acting commissioner Abdulla Nawaz urged the commanders to ensure peaceful progression and safety across Maldivian islands during the presidential polls, adding the force's commanders were tasked with a vital responsibility.

Acting commissioner Nawaz had also addressed temporary change to police protocols over the commencement of the operation, which stretches nationwide, and said he understands it may pose difficulties for officers.

However, Nawaz requested from the officers of Maldives Police to work diligently with full commitment to ensure public safety.

Police commanders on Monday morning had discussed the details of a full scale exercise prior voting day and addressed how each police department will act with accordance to the operation.
