Maldives pres promises slicing internet rates by 30%

Maldives president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom on Tuesday evening promised to reduce internet services by 30 percent.

The island nation's head of state explained he aims to procure a submarine cable to achieve a desired price reduction on internet services.

President Yameen made the pledge to Maldivian public on Tuesday evening during a special rally held by ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

Additionally in his speech president Yameen had further assured of training youth in information communication technology (ICT) field; which the incumbent president assured will become a top priority if re-elected.

"While we are planning on investing to reduce internet service rates, we don't wish for our data transmissions to be controlled by an external or foreign corporation," president Yameen claimed.

Maldives president also ensured the reclaimed suburb Hulhumale' will be developed under a 'smart-city' concept and will become an international financial and business hub.
