Former First Lady of Maldives strongly responds to PPM claims

Former First Lady of Maldives Nasreena Ibrahim has responded to ruling party's earlier statement over former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's release 'only at the hands of Yameen Abdul Gayoom.'

In her public message on Saturday, Nasreena Ibrahim had stated the ruling party's assertion of Gayoom's release at the hands of Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom after he gets re-elected to top office is proof enough that the sitting president has authority on releasing the jailed ex-president.

"This shows president Abdulla Yameen has the authority to release him [Gayoom], but question is why has Yameen not done anything so far about this? Now they are saying Gayoom will walk free once he [Yameen] gets elected for a second term, but how are we to believe any of this," Nasreena said.

The former first lady also stated she was not seeking the release of her husband only but also all those wrongfully incarcerated and serving time for years on trumped up charges.

In her message, Nasreena Ibrahim had urged from Maldives public to cast vote at the earliest possible hour on Sunday. She also urged to vote opposition presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih if the country wishes to see political reform.
