EC urges Maldives public discourage unrest on voting day

The Maldives elections commission has advised against participating or encouraging any act of commotion or altercation as voting for crunch presidential election begins on Sunday.

The president of Maldives electoral watchdog, Ahmed Shareef made the public announcement via Twitter urging the country's citizens to abide by elections guidelines.

Shareef had in his tweet urged the locals to refrain from any act provoking unrest and discourage such attempts.

Voting on the presidential elections of 2018 started on 08:00hrs of Sunday morning. Hundreds upon thousands of locals have been gathering near ballot stations hours ahead of the ballot boxes were unsealed.
