Court releases ex-Pres Gayoom's staff

Criminal Court on Wednesday released former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's Secretariat staff Nazma Ibrahim and his private security official Mohamed Azmee from jail.

Both Gayoom's staff were arrested back in February on charges of attempts to oust sitting president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's regime.

While Nazma Ibrahim was remanded in house arrest until trial's conclusion Mohamed Azmee was detained in jail until his trial concluded.

The 'black box' containing several incriminating documents related to the coup of ousting government was discovered from Nazma's residence according to Maldives Police.

Both Nazma and Azmee were charged with obstruction of justice. Both were looking at a jail sentence of 4 months 24 days if they get convicted, however on Wednesday they were acquitted without any condition.
