Gayoom to court seeking annulment on PPM congress decisions

Maumoon Reform Movement has claimed they will be seeking to annul the Progressive Party of Maldives' congress decisions to elect new members to key positions, through Maldives court.

According to a statement by the party's elections committee members who work in Maumoon Reform Movement the Friday's congress violated the ruling party's general regulations' article 72(a) which cites all internal polls must succeed in the presence of the party's elections committee.

The elections committee has thus declared the newly elected members to party responsibilities illegitimate.

In Friday's congress the ruling party elected sitting president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom as PPM's new president while Aishath Azima Shakoor, economic minister Mohamed Saeed, tourism minister Moosa Zameer and Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla were elected as party deputy leaders.
