Elections Commission denies vote rigging allegations

Maldives Elections Commission (EC) on Tuesday has denied allegations of the commission colluding presidential elections results.

The commission's member Ahmed Akram assured all elections proceedings adhered strictly to local Elections (General) Regulations.

Following the final polls result of the Maldivian presidential elections 2018 on September 23, several supporters and the leadership of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) accused the electoral watchdog was guilty of vote-rigging.

The party on Monday evening held a protest with outgoing president Abdulla Yameen leading the gathering; calling out for the immediate resignation of the commission's members including EC's president Ahmed Shareef.

Meanwhile several of the party's supporters have been urging local authorities to arrest Shareef and commence probe on elections proceedings.
