A fire breaks out at Reethi Beach Resort in Baa atoll, destroying the island's water plant and powerhouse.
Fire department said the fire broke out on Saturday in a storeroom of the luxury resort's carpentry, which spread to the water-plant installed in the same building. The fire reached the engine room, scorching the ceiling and destroying installed electrical wiring.
The fire was controlled around 12.20pm in the afternoon by Lhaviyani Atoll Naifaru island Fire and Rescue police, assisted by the resort staff, and was put out shortly after.
There were no casualties in the incident.
In a statement, the management of the resort confirmed all guests and employees at the resort are safe and accounted for. While operation of the resort has come to a stand-still, the resort is currently re-locating their guests to Reethi Faru Resort.
A fire broke out in Gili Lankan Fushi Resort, and was destroyed beyond use just last week.
