Nasheed vows to link Hinnavaru to Naifaru in five years

Former President Nasheed on Friday vowed to link Hinnavaru island and Naifaru island of Lhaviyani Atoll within five years.

Speaking at the primary campaign event of an MDP member, Nasheed revealed that the government has big plans for Lhaviyani atoll. In line with the government's visions, the islands between Hinnavaru and Naifaru will be inter-connected as a linear track within the next five years, with Naifaru and Hinnavaru acting as the main hubs, said Nasheed.

The government will enable residents of Hinnavaru island to have job opportunities at their home-island and envisioned that the island would boast a population of 10,000 in five year's time, he added.

Nasheed stressed that not much further development is necessary for the island for 10,000 people to build their lives in Hinnavaru. Several economic activities are taking place within the atoll, however, the true socioeconomic benefit of these activities do not reach the inhabited islands of the atoll as the resorts in the atoll are self-sufficient, and do not need to seek services from the rest of the atoll, noted Nasheed.

Within the next five years, guest-house business would be introduced to Hinnavaru, and the benefits of these investments would reach residents of the island soon enough, promised Nasheed.

Nasheed further vowed to represent the people and their needs in the parliament.

Nasheed will be running for the central Mahchangolhi seat in the parliamentary election. He has promised that the 19th parliament will be unique and have integrity.
