Foreign Minister concludes trip to Saudi Arabia


Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid on Friday returned to Maldives after concluding his three-day state visit to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Minister met with several to government officials of the Kingdom, including Foreign Affairs Minister His Excellency Dr, Ibrahim Bin Abdul Aziz Al A'saf. During his meeting with the Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister, the ministers discussed on ways to strengthen the bilateral relations and maintain the brotherhood between both countries. Discussions on ways to facilitate easy obtainment of Saudi visa for Maldivians were successful, revealed Minister Shahid. In addition, the ministers discussed ways in which the construction of King Salman Mosque in capital Male' can be expedited.

Minister Shahid also met with Minster of Commerce and Investment of Saudi Arabia, His Excellency Dr. Majid Bin Abdulla Al Ghalabi, and discussed investment opportunities and how both countries can assist each other in the economic sector. The ministers further discussed on ways to ensure that the scholarships awarded by the Kingdom are utilized well. The organization of a trade fair in Riyad, Saudi Arabia to showcase exhibitions from Maldives and Saudi Arabia was also discussed.

The minister also met with Advisor of General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers and chairman of Saudi Fund for Development, His Excellency Ahmad Bin Aqeel Al Khathib, Deputy Minister of Finance His Excellency Hamad Bin Sulaiman Al Baai. Key areas of discussion include governing policies, current and future development projects.

Minister Shahid thanked all officials from the Saudi Arabian government for their continuous assistance and close relationship between both countries.
