Minister admits concern over invasion rumors

Defence Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi has stated that the defence force is concerned over some comments that are being made at a series of gatherings at Dharubaaruge hall in capital Male'.

While being questioned over a comment made by the minister in a recent interview to an Indian media, MP Rozaina inquired from the minister if she has been questioned by defence personnel over any issue.

In her reply, the Minister insisted that the defense force remains strong and will not waver based on false rumors. Maria said the defence personnel of Maldives are educated, capable, sensible and devoted loyalists who cannot be compromised over idle talk.

However, the minister expressed concern on behalf of the defence force over comments being made at Dharubaaruge. It is believed that the minister was hinting at the series of gatherings being held by former Home Minister Umar Naseer and some members of the opposition coalition, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Peoples' National Congress (PNC) protesting against the Indian military personnel stationed in the Maldives for various purposes.

The Minister went on to suggest that the talks of another country invading Maldives is a political stunt being orchestrated to achieve a temporary political goal.
