Coalition leaders absent at "Article 4" launch

Former president Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom has stated that he missed the presence of his coalition partners at the ceremony held to kick-off the campaigns of parliamentary election candidates backed by Maumoon.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Vice President Faisal Naseem, coalition leaders Gasim Ibrahim from Jumhooree Party, Mohamed Nasheed from main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), and Imran Abdulla from Adhaalath party were invited to to the ceremony held on Wednesday night to launch the "Article 4" campaign. However, none of the leaders attended the function.

Maumoon revealed that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had informed him that he could not attend the ceremony due to other commitments. The absence of the coalition partners due to their work schedules made the function incomplete, said Maumoon.

During the time the "Article 4" launching ceremony was being held, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and former president Nasheed were at a high-level meeting of MDP with its candidates, campaign teams and council members. While Vice President Faisal is currently in Berlin for the ITB Fair, it is unknown why Gasim Ibrahim and Imran Abdulla did not attend the function.
