The opposition has filed a dispute with the Committee on oversight of the Government regarding dismissal of government employees whose political views differ from that of the government.
The complaint submitted by the parliamentary group leader of opposing Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik voiced concerns that anti-government employees working at state-owned companies were being dismissed from their jobs, and implored the committee to look into the complaints.
"Fenaka Corporation has dismissed an exorbitant number of employees. I invoke article 123 of the parliament laws to call upon the committee on the oversight of the government to hold a meeting [to look into this matter]", the complaint read.
Although the original complaint did not specify that the dismissed employees were not supporters of the current government, MP Nihan shared a copy of the complaint on social media platform Twitter, captioning that anti-MDP employees were being dismissed from state-owned enterprises. MDP is the main ruling party pf the ruling coalition.
