President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced that the signing ceremony the construction of 4000-housing units under a mega-housing project will take place on Wednesday.

Speaking on 'Fashaairu' morning show on local channel Raajje TV, President Solih promised to provide affordable housing solutions for the citizens of Maldives. Three-room apartments will be offered at a monthly rent of MVR 6000, said the President.

"The mothly rent of our social housing units would be between MVR 5000-6000", said President Solih.

The President pledged to resolve the housing issues faced by Maldivians by the end of his five year term.

Speaking on the challenges faced as president, President Solih said he finds appointing people recommended by coalition partners for different government positions to be extremely distressing. If individuals endorsed and recommended by a coalition partner is not appointed for a certain position, he has to face the displeasure of the partner, while the president also has to endure the backlash and criticism of the people that comes with appointing some individuals recommended by coalition partners.

The president attributed the decision to grant six months of paid maternity leave and one month of paid paternity lave as the most rewarding decision he has made thus far during his presidency. The president noted the decision to decrease the interest rate on loans granted to students as one of the most important decision made by the government until now.
