Positive reform has ameliorated the police force, says pres.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Soli has stated that the reform brought about within the last four months after he took Office has ameliorated the police force.

Speaking at a ceremony held on Friday to mark 86 years of police service, President Solih said the main reasons the trust placed in the police by the people were compromised were due to inclination towards political influences and acts of corruption. Due to these reasons, the good name of the police has been tainted, with the trust placed in the police by the people being lost.

However, the trust that was lost is now being regained, and the efforts undertaken by the police to achieve this has made the changes brought to the police force the most positive and productive change witnessed during the current presidency thus far, noted the President.

"I happily acknowledge that the professional policy that the police has recently adapted and their policy of prioritizing the nation has done much to regain the trust of the people. I would also like to note that the police force has undergone the best transformation thus far in our presidency during the past four months", the president said.

Shedding light on the efforts undertaken to reform the police force since the first day of presidency, the president noted that all key targets set by the government for the first 100 days of administration pertaining to the police have been successfully fulfilled. While a 5-year police strategic plan has been formulated with input from the citizens, work of environment police and the traffic police have been streamlined further, he added.

Referring to the Police Reform Symposium held during last week, president Solih noted that a short symposium is not enough for the sustainable development of the police force, and assured that the government would give high priority to attaining the resources required for its development.
