Indian PM congratulates Maldives pres on landslide victory

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s landslide victory in Saturday's parliamentary election.

The Prime Minister congratulated the president via telephone on Tuesday morning. During the call, Prime Minister Modi said the election results prove the extent to which the Maldivian people have accepted the government. Noting the age-old friendship between India and Maldives, Modi assured continued assistance to Maldives from India.

President Solih thanked the Indian Prime Minister for his felicitations and stressed that the current government would prioritize the relationship between both countries. The President further noted that India has always been a close ally of the Maldives.
